Bidjar Persian carpets is the name of a small Kurdish town in western Iran. (Bijar is a city in Iran in the province of Kordest. In 2012 the city had 47,500 inhabitants)
Kurdish carpets are often very strong and compact, which makes them extremely durable. For many carpet specialists the name Bidjar refers to the meaning of sustainability. The weavers use a heavy comb, made of metal and wood, on the weft and knots, making the pile almost upright. The surface of the pile thus becomes very compact, which prevents gravel and other small particles from being pressed into the carpet. The carpets are made with Turkish knots and are usually red and blue with beige elements. The most common pattern is Herati (also called fish pattern), but medallions and floral motifs also occur. Bidjar carpets are manufactured in most sizes, from Zaronim (150x100 cm) and larger sizes. They have a sober elegance and fit in most environments. Their durability makes the carpets very suitable for public environments.
