About 150 kilometers south of Tehran lies the city of Ghom. The production of carpets started at the beginning of the 20th century. Ghom carpets are known for their good workmanship with a pile in wool or silk. They are often manufactured with a high knot density and have varied patterns borrowed from other areas of Iran. Sometimes details are woven into silk. It also happens that carpets are made entirely of silk, Silk Ghom. Gardens, medallions or figurative carpets with plants and animal motifs are common. Today, carpets are also manufactured in other places and these carpets also bear the name Ghom. The carpets are also sold under the names Ghome, Gom, Qum, Kum and Qom
