Although De Heriz carpets belong to the Tabriz family, we have to take them separately because of some peculiarities in the techniques used. These carpets come from about thirty villages within 45 km of Tabriz. Of these, the most important are Heriz, Georavan, Bakshaish and Mehraban. Heriz carpets have a lot in common with those from Tabriz, especially the use of the Turkish knot. The Patterns are the same too; however, they are interpreted quite differently by the village craftsmen. The craftsmen from Heriz Knot do not cut wavy patterns in reshaping the arabesque of the pattern into perpendicular, horizontal and diagonal lines. In this way, two different carpets are created from the same pattern. The Tabriz carpet is classic and refined, the Heriz carpet simple and stylized. European connoisseurs know both the name Heriz and the name Georavan, which designates the carpets of old manufacture from this district. Georavan carpets usually have a light background and beautiful decorative motifs in shades from maroon to midnight blue.
