Afghan carpets are knotted in a vast area, including the provinces of Turkstan and Afghanistan. Originally they are nomadic, but nowadays they are tied in professional centers. The warp and weft are made of wool - often goat's wool, which can be seen by the grayish color of the fringe. The pile is of a good quality glossy wool and is of medium or great depth, depending on where the carpet is made.
