Mir The Boteh figures are central to the Mir pattern. The most common Mir carpets in our collection are manufactured in India. However, we always have a number of Persian Mir carpets in stock. The Persian Mir most likely has its origin in the Sarabend carpet. From the region of the same name in the mountains between Arak and Borujird. In any case, the inhabitants of this region have been knotting all-over Boteh patterns for at least 150 years and perhaps even longer. Sometime in the nineteenth century, a finer version of the Sarabend carpet emerged, using the Persian knot instead of the Turkish knot. The name of these carpets is Mir Sarabend or Saruq Mir. The carpet specialists are not entirely sure that the Saruq Mir derives from the Sarabend carpet, perhaps they have always coexisted and are only descended from the same ancestor. It could very well be that the Boteh pattern of the Mir is inspired by ancient Indian textiles. The Indian Mir carpets come from the Bhadohi-Mirzapur region of the Uttar Paradesh province. Despite the fact that the current Mir carpet pattern is certainly a reproduction of a Persian Mir carpet, the Indian Mir carpets are completely in line with a strong ancient Idian tradition. Some specialists believe that the Boteh pattern originated in India, and regardless of whether this is correct, the fact is that the pattern has been used for centuries in the textile industry of Uttar Pradesh and the rest of India.
